Local benefits

Local benefit calculations and references

All local governments whose coastline is within 20 km of an offshore wind farm will benefit from the establishment of wind farms. The charge is 0.5% of the volume of electricity produced per quarter (but not less than 32% of rated capacity) multiplied by the arithmetic mean of electricity price. The revenue received by local governments depends on the volume of electricity produced and the electricity price.

The residents of Hiiu rural municipality will also have the opportunity to invest in the offshore wind farm by acquiring preferred stocks or bonds with a fixed 15% annual interest rate.

In the case of a 1,000 MW wind farm, the minimum revenue is as follows:
Electricity price 50€/MWh (5 c/kWh) » Charge 700,000€ per year (2.3% of the 2022 budget of Hiiu rural municipality)
Electricity price 75€/MWh (7.5 c/kWh) » Charge 1,050,00€ per year (3.5% of the 2022 budget of Hiiu rural municipality)
